Steel Fixer (Reinforcing)

The low-cost housing project in eMalahleni needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll report in eMalahleni. Relocation is not covered for this one. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off

• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test

• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering

• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest

• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
