Steel Fixer (Reinforcing) – Entry Level

The low-cost housing project in Umlazi needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The site is in Umlazi; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats

• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches

• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
