Job Description

You'll catch shoplifting and stock losses at a fashion retail store in Tzaneen before they cost jobs. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The work is in Tzaneen, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

The work, day to day

  • Help with stock counts and point out loss hot-spots
  • Check receiving bay deliveries against invoices and seal numbers
  • Walk the floor in plain clothes and watch for shoplifting behaviour
  • Share trends with the store manager each week
  • Search staff bags at exit points according to store policy

What you need

  • Discreet, observant and honest
  • Able to handle confrontation calmly
  • Knowledge of lawful arrest and search under the Criminal Procedure Act
  • Good report writing
  • Matric or equivalent NQF Level 4
  • PSIRA registration, Grade C at least

Extra points for

  • Retail loss prevention course
  • Understanding of stock systems and shrinkage reports

What's in it for you

  • Monthly recovery incentives
  • Retail trading hours, no night shift in most stores
  • Plain clothes work (no uniform in detective roles)
  • Staff discount at the retailer

Applying, step by step

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): PSIRA certificate and ID copy plus matric certificate.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 6 working days.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Tzaneen.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Before you hit apply

  • Keep your appearance low-key for the interview. Detectives need to blend in with shoppers.
  • Show you know the legal limits of search and arrest. A single unlawful arrest can cost a store badly, so they will ask about it.
