Job Description

This municipal infrastructure department in Springs needs someone who can check a design and then go and check it was built right. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

Home base is a municipal infrastructure department on the Springs side of Gauteng. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

What you'll actually do

Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue
Chair site meetings and handle contractor queries
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
Write design reports and handover documents
Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures

What you need

Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate

Extra points for

Contract management training for NEC or GCC
Master's degree in structural or water engineering
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
