Job Description

You'll keep clients in good standing with SARS at a mid-tier accounting firm in Paarl. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Paarl-based, with most of your time spent at a mid-tier accounting firm.

The work, day to day

Apply for tax clearance and tax compliance status PINs
Respond to SARS verification letters and upload documents on time
Keep client tax files complete for five years
Advise on deductions such as retirement contributions and home office claims
Track filing season deadlines and send reminders to clients
Prepare VAT201 returns and review input tax claims

What you need

Degree or diploma in accounting or tax
Registered tax practitioner with a recognised controlling body such as SAIT or SAIPA
Clear writing for SARS letters and objections
Neat, careful and organised with client documents
Working knowledge of the Income Tax Act and VAT Act
Comfortable handling tax season overtime

Extra points for

Experience with trusts, estates and capital gains tax
Tax software experience such as TaxShop or CaseWare
Customs and excise knowledge for import-export clients
