Theatre Cleaner (Private Hospital)

Careful, trained cleaners are wanted at a day surgery clinic in Middelburg (MP). Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll report in Middelburg (MP). Relocation is not covered for this one. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Disinfect bed rails, call bells and bedside lockers
• Wear gowns, masks and gloves as each room requires
• Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
• Mop spills of blood or fluids using the spill kit
• Handle and bag medical waste in the right coloured bins
• Fill in cleaning logs so infection control can audit the ward
• Do terminal cleans of isolation rooms after a patient is discharged

• Respectful and discreet around patients
• Matric or Grade 11
• Calm under pressure in busy wards
• Not squeamish about blood, vomit or medical waste
• Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B
• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty

• Knowledge of healthcare waste handling rules
• Previous hospital or clinic cleaning experience
• An infection prevention and control short course

• On-the-job infection control training
• Meal on shift at the staff canteen
• Medical aid option through the employer
• Shift allowances for nights and Sundays

• Mention any hospital, clinic or old-age home work first, even if it was short. Healthcare recruiters shortlist people who know ward routines.
• If you did an infection control course, attach the certificate. It moves you ahead of general cleaners.
