Tiler (Floors & Wet Areas)

Put your trade to work on the housing development site in Isando, with steady work for the length of the project. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a housing development site on the Isando side of Gauteng. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off

• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Willing to move between sites in the same city

• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade

• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Transport from a pick-up point to site

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
