Put your trade to work on the low-cost housing project in Midrand, with steady work for the length of the project. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Midrand-based, with most of your time spent at a low-cost housing project. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats

• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside

• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter

• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
