Job Description

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for an eucalyptus plantation in the hills near Cape Town CBD. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at an eucalyptus plantation in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

The work, day to day

Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily

You'll need

Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires

Extra points for

Previous plantation or sawmill experience
Fire fighting training
Chainsaw operator certificate
