Timber Loader and Stacker

Winter fire season is near, and an eucalyptus plantation near East London needs crews ready. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll be based at an eucalyptus plantation in East London. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season

• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Willing to work in remote areas
• Available for early starts and fire-season standby

• Previous plantation or sawmill experience
• First-aid training

• Full safety gear provided
• Fire-season standby allowance
• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Crew transport to plantations

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
