Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and an eucalyptus plantation near Newcastle needs crews ready. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The work is in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

What your day looks like

Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader

You'll need

Willing to work in remote areas
Valid ID
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes

Nice if you have

Fire fighting training
First-aid training
