Timber Loader and Stacker – Permanent

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a fire protection association in the hills near Tzaneen. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The work is in Tzaneen, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season

• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Willing to work in remote areas
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Valid ID
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes

• Previous plantation or sawmill experience
• Fire fighting training

• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Full safety gear provided
• Crew transport to plantations
• Fire-season standby allowance

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
