Job Description

Big machines, long days in season: a sugar cane estate near Umhlanga needs a skilled operator. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is in Umhlanga (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

The work, day to day

Operate combine harvesters during harvest season
Check oil, water, tyres and grease points before starting
Record hours, fuel and fields worked on the job card
Wash equipment after spraying and store chemicals safely
Clear firebreaks and grade farm roads when needed
Haul cane, grain or fruit bins from field to shed
Mix and apply sprays exactly as the farm manager prescribes

What you need

At least 2 years driving tractors on a farm
Willing to work long hours in planting and harvest seasons
Basic understanding of implements and settings
Available to live on or near the farm
Safe driver who respects chemical and machine safety
Can read job cards and spray instructions

Extra points for

Code 8 or Code 10 licence for road trips
Combine harvester experience
