Transport Controller (Long Haul Fleet)

Trucks, drivers, loads and deadlines all meet on your screen at a distribution depot in Polokwane. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Home base is a distribution depot on the Polokwane side of Limpopo. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries
• Arrange breakdown recovery and replacement vehicles
• Update customers on delivery times and delays
• Phone drivers when trucks stop too long or go off-route
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests
• Plan daily loads to use full truck capacity
• Check driver hours so nobody drives too long without rest

• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong
• Matric
• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Able to work shifts in a 24-hour control office

• Logistics or supply chain certificate
• Transport management system (TMS) experience

• Office-based work with a steady roster
• Growth to transport manager
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems
• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts

• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
