Truck Loader (Night Shift)

Trucks come in heavy and leave loaded at this furniture retailer warehouse in Khayelitsha, and you move the stock in between. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

The site is in Khayelitsha; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Offload containers by hand, counting cartons as they come off
• Strap and secure loads so nothing shifts in transit
• Assemble or place furniture where the customer asks
• Get proof-of-delivery notes signed and stamped at each drop
• Guide trucks reversing into the bay with hand signals
• Sweep the bay and clear shrink-wrap after each loading

• Willing to travel on routes that return late
• Honest; you will be handling customer goods and cash-on-delivery slips
• Comfortable starting from 04:00 or working late loading shifts
• Grade 9 or higher and able to read a delivery note
• Friendly with customers at the door
• No criminal record

• Past work as a driver's assistant
• Speaking more than one local language for customer drops
• Basic furniture assembly skills

• Meal allowance on long-route days
• Route-completion incentives in busy months
• Help to get your own licence through the company later
• Uniform and safety shoes provided

• Keep your CV to one page with your phone number big and clear. Depot managers phone, they seldom email.
• Say what hours you can start. Loading bays often hire the person who can be there at 04:00 without fail.
