Job Description

Harvest time on a wine farm near Johannesburg CBD means early mornings, full crates and paid overtime. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll be based at a wine farm in Johannesburg CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What your day looks like

  • Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
  • Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
  • Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
  • Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
  • Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety

You'll need

  • Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
  • Willing to start at sunrise
  • Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
  • Available for the full harvest season
  • Follows farm hygiene and safety rules

Nice if you have

  • Previous harvest or picking experience
  • Tractor or quad bike experience
  • Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

What's in it for you

  • Farm transport from nearby towns
  • Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
  • Seasonal accommodation on some farms
  • Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
  • Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
