Tunnel Crop Worker (Tomatoes and Peppers)

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a commercial seedling nursery near Paarl through the season. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll report in Paarl. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay

• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Available for the full harvest season
• Valid ID or work permit
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
