Wine Steward (Fine Dining)

This is a floor job at a wine farm restaurant in Midrand where your tips follow your service. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a wine farm restaurant on the Midrand side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Clear, wipe and reset tables fast during the Friday and Sunday rush.
• Pull espresso shots and steam milk for flat whites and cappuccinos.
• Carry plates to the right seat without auctioning food at the table.
• Explain specials, allergens and wine pairings in plain words.
• Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.

• Happy to work nights, weekends and public holidays
• Quick with basic maths and card machines
• Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
• You can stand and walk for a full 8-hour shift
• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience

• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills
• Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
• A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans

• Staff meal on every shift
• Paid menu and wine tastings so you can sell with confidence
• You keep your own tips, paid out daily or weekly
• Uniform supplied and laundered

• Put the names of the restaurants you worked at and your average covers per shift at the top of your CV.
• Recruiters ask about a difficult table, so have one real story ready about how you turned it around.
