Yellow Machine Mechanic (Earthmoving Plant)

Keep trucks on the road and earning at the municipal bus depot in Mahikeng. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll report in Mahikeng. Relocation is not covered for this one. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Repair hydraulics on tippers, cranes and tail-lifts
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system

• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Diesel mechanic trade test certificate
• Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs

• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles
• Hydraulic systems training
• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses

• Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
• Overtime available most weeks

• Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
• List the truck and engine types you have worked on, including electronic systems. Fleet managers screen for those.
