Access Control Officer (Grade C)

Residents and staff at an office tower in Umhlanga need to feel safe when they arrive; that is your job. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Umhlanga (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Search vehicles and bags leaving the site when company policy requires it
• Hand out and collect contractor access cards
• Open and close boom gates for residents, deliveries and contractors
• Direct traffic and parking during school drop-off or big events
• Patrol the perimeter on a set route and scan checkpoint tags
• Watch for loitering, broken fencing and open doors during night patrols
• Call the armed response or SAPS number from the call list when needed

• PSIRA registration at Grade C or higher, paid up to date
• Alert, polite and firm with the public
• Clear, neat handwriting for the OB and registers
• Able to work 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends
• Physically fit for foot patrols
• Grade 10 minimum; matric preferred

• Stable long-term site contracts
• Uniform, boots and winter jacket issued
• Chance to be upgraded to Grade B with training
• Provident fund contributions

• Make sure your PSIRA fees are paid. A lapsed registration gets your CV thrown out, even if you have years of experience.
• List the types of sites you have guarded, like estate, mall or factory. Security companies place officers by site experience.
