Apprentice Motor Mechanic (merSETA)

This used car dealership workshop in Boksburg needs a qualified mechanic who can handle services, repairs and electrical faults. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at an used car dealership workshop in Boksburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted

• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Your own basic toolbox
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams

• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration
• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy
• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training

• Tool allowance or tool insurance
• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Productivity bonus on sold hours above target
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer

• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
• Put your trade test date and the car brands you know best at the top of your CV.
