Associate Attorney (Commercial Litigation) – Fixed-Term

A financial services company legal department in Johannesburg CBD needs an attorney who can draft, advise and stand up in court. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The work is in Johannesburg CBD, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Track legislation changes that affect clients' businesses
• Advise clients on risk, settlement and next steps in plain language
• Review company processes for POPIA and privacy compliance
• Keep trust account instructions and fee notes accurate
• Draft and review contracts, shareholder agreements and legal opinions
• Negotiate settlements and draft settlement agreements
• Brief counsel and prepare them for trial and opposed motions

• LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa
• Able to manage client relationships without a senior in the room
• At least 2 years of post-admission experience in the relevant field
• Sound judgement under deadline pressure
• Enrolled with the Legal Practice Council and holding a current Fidelity Fund certificate if you handle trust money
• Strong drafting and legal research

• Existing client following
• LLM or postgraduate certificate in your specialist area

• Clear path to directorship at some firms
• Paid LPC fees and CPD
• Medical aid and retirement fund
