Au Pair / Nanny (After-School Care)

You'll keep a retired couple's cottage in Pietermaritzburg clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll be based at a retired couple's cottage in Pietermaritzburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking

• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Good with children and patient

• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• A driver's licence for school lifts
• Non-smoker

• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
