Au Pair / Nanny (After-School Care) – Fixed-Term

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a retired couple's cottage in Roodepoort. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is Roodepoort-based, with most of your time spent at a retired couple's cottage. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Clean windows and patio doors once a week
• Change bed linen and make beds

• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• South African ID or valid work permit

• Non-smoker
• Cooking experience with family meals
• Basic first aid or child CPR course

• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer

• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
