Automatic Gearbox Technician

This independent service workshop in Durban Central needs a qualified mechanic who can handle services, repairs and electrical faults. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is an independent service workshop on the Durban Central side of KwaZulu-Natal.

• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering

• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Your own basic toolbox
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars

• Automatic gearbox or DSG repair experience
• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration

• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Staff discount on parts and services
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer
• Tool allowance or tool insurance

• Do not leave gaps unexplained. Say if you were working for yourself or doing mobile repairs.
• If you hit or beat your sold-hour target, say by how much. Workshop managers love that number.
