Paint Preparer (Body Shop)

You'll bring accident-damaged cars back to factory standard at the truck body repair workshop in Umlazi. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Home base is a truck body repair workshop on the Umlazi side of KwaZulu-Natal. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Fit new panels using spot welding and bonding methods
• Strip damaged panels, bumpers and trims and bag the fixings
• Repair dents with hammers, dollies and a stud welder
• Cut and polish to remove dust marks and orange peel
• Mask up vehicles properly to keep overspray off glass and trim
• Apply filler, sand and prime to a smooth, ready surface
• Mix paint colours with a spectrophotometer and the mixing scheme

• Knowledge of spray booth safety and respirator use
• Experience with modern waterborne or high-solids paint systems
• Panel beating or spray painting trade test, or at least 4 years of proven work
• Physically able to stand, bend and kneel for long periods
• Good colour vision and a steady hand

• Experience as a workshop controller in a body shop
• ADAS camera and sensor recalibration after repairs
• Measuring jig and electronic measuring experience

• Say which paint systems you have used, like waterborne base coat with a 2K clear. Body shops care about this.
