Automotive Technician (Diagnostics)

You'll service, diagnose and repair cars in a busy independent service workshop in Potchefstroom. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at an independent service workshop in Potchefstroom. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Write clear job card notes on what you found and what you fixed

• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Your own basic toolbox
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets

• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Tool allowance or tool insurance
• Staff discount on parts and services

• Put your trade test date and the car brands you know best at the top of your CV.
• If you hit or beat your sold-hour target, say by how much. Workshop managers love that number.
