Job Description

Good service at a hotel restaurant in Gqeberha starts with you: friendly, quick and on top of every order. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is in Gqeberha (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

The work, day to day

Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.
Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.
Check back two minutes after mains land and fix problems on the spot.
Greet guests, seat them and hand over menus within a minute of arrival.
Take orders on the POS tablet and read them back to avoid kitchen mistakes.

Must-haves

Happy to work nights, weekends and public holidays
You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
Quick with basic maths and card machines
Grade 10 or higher; matric is a plus

Helpful, not essential

Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans
