Berry Picker (Tunnel Farm) – Entry Level

Outdoor work with your hands on a berry tunnel farm near Cape Town CBD; no experience needed for most posts. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a berry tunnel farm on the Cape Town CBD side of Western Cape. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay

• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
