Boilermaker (Structural Steel Fabrication)

The trailer and truck body builder in Cape Town CBD needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a trailer and truck body builder.

• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill

• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one

• Rigging or crane signalling certificate
• Duplex or chrome-moly welding experience

• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
