Boilermaker (Structural Steel Fabrication)

Strong welding and plate work for the pressure vessel manufacturer in Vereeniging, with real drawings and real tolerances. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

Location: Vereeniging, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill

• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one

• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1
• Rigging or crane signalling certificate
• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
