Boilermaker-Welder (Plant Shutdowns)

Strong welding and plate work for the structural steel fabrication workshop in Phalaborwa, with real drawings and real tolerances. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

The work is in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine

• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying

• Duplex or chrome-moly welding experience
• Orbital or automatic welding experience
• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
