Bookkeeper to Trial Balance (Sage Pastel) – Experienced

A wholesale distributor in Harrismith needs a bookkeeper who closes the month on time, every month. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The site is in Harrismith; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review
• Match orders, delivery notes and invoices before a payment goes out
• Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling

• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details

• Hybrid work after probation at some practices
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms

• Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
