Bricklayer (Face Brick & Plaster Brick)

Put your trade to work on the residential renovation company in Khayelitsha, with steady work for the length of the project. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

The site is in Khayelitsha; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job

• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements

• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter

• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
