Job Description

Hard outdoor work on a shopping centre renovation in Isando, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The work is in Isando, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

The work, day to day

Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
Clear rubble and load it into skips
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor

Must-haves

Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
A clean record is preferred for some government sites
Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

Helpful, not essential

A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

On offer

Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
Paid weekly or fortnightly
