Bricklayer's Assistant

Every wall and slab on this road rehabilitation project in Midrand needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Midrand (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines

• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
