Bricklayer's Assistant

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a road rehabilitation project in Springs can keep building. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Springs (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision

• Grade 8 or higher
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
