Cashbook and Recon Clerk

A family-owned manufacturer in Ermelo needs a bookkeeper who closes the month on time, every month. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a family-owned manufacturer on the Ermelo side of Mpumalanga. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Reconcile creditors statements and sort out differences with suppliers
• Match orders, delivery notes and invoices before a payment goes out
• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review

• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Matric with Accounting
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details
• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work

• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Office hours with no weekend work
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms

• Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
