Job Description

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a forestry contractor in the hills near East London. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

The work is in East London, Eastern Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

The work, day to day

Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw

What you need

Valid ID
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Willing to work in remote areas

Helpful, not essential

First-aid training
Chainsaw operator certificate
Fire fighting training
