Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and a fire protection association near Coega needs crews ready. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Coega (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

What you'll actually do

Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader

Must-haves

Passes the medical check for fire crews
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
