Job Description

Timber keeps rural towns working, and a fire protection association near Sandton is hiring crews. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a fire protection association in Sandton. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What your day looks like

Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times

Must-haves

Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Willing to work in remote areas
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
