Job Description

This municipal infrastructure department in Durban Central needs someone who can check a design and then go and check it was built right. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Location: Durban Central, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

What you'll actually do

Design water pipelines, sewers and stormwater systems with hydraulic software
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Write design reports and handover documents
Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162

Must-haves

At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate
BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering

Helpful, not essential

Master's degree in structural or water engineering
Registration with SAICE and active CPD
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
