CNC Machinist (Lathe & Milling)

The packaging manufacturer in Umhlanga needs an artisan who can fix a breakdown fast and machine a part when needed. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The work is in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors

• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set

• Forklift licence for moving heavy parts
• CNC programming experience
• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses

• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Tool allowance
• Shift and standby allowances

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
