Control and Instrumentation Engineer

You'll design, protect and maintain electrical systems for the municipal electricity department in Hammarsdale. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is in Hammarsdale (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion
• Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
• Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
• Keep single line diagrams and as-built drawings up to date
• Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
• Set and test protection relays and keep settings records
• Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres

• At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
• Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
• Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
• BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
• Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations

• Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
• Protection or HV operating authorisation

• Clear path to associate or senior engineer
• Vehicle allowance for site work
• Flexible hours on design days
