Job Description

Roads, water, buildings: the bulk water utility in Kempton Park needs a civil engineer who can take a project from design to site. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Kempton Park-based, with most of your time spent at a bulk water utility.

What you'll actually do

Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
Review geotechnical reports and choose suitable foundations
Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue
Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
Chair site meetings and handle contractor queries
Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Write design reports and handover documents

What you need

Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
Good grasp of South African design codes for your field

Nice if you have

Contract management training for NEC or GCC
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
