Job Description

Clean water, safe roads and sound structures start with a good engineer at the structural design practice in Pietermaritzburg. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Pietermaritzburg-based, with most of your time spent at a structural design practice. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What you'll actually do

Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
Review geotechnical reports and choose suitable foundations
Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue
Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals

Must-haves

Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate
Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering

Helpful, not essential

Master's degree in structural or water engineering
Contract management training for NEC or GCC
