Job Description

Power has to be safe, reliable and legal. The solar and battery project developer in Durban Central needs you to make it so. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is Durban Central-based, with most of your time spent at a solar and battery project developer.

The work, day to day

Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
Set and test protection relays and keep settings records
Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion

You'll need

Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate

Helpful, not essential

Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
PLC programming certification
Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
