Civil Engineer (Water and Sanitation)

Clean water, safe roads and sound structures start with a good engineer at the municipal infrastructure department in Sandton. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a municipal infrastructure department on the Sandton side of Gauteng. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
• Write design reports and handover documents
• Chair site meetings and handle contractor queries
• Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
• Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
• Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
• Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162

• Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
• At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
• Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
• BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
• Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
