Cleaning Porter (Hospital Wards)

Careful, trained cleaners are wanted at a day surgery clinic in Fourways. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a day surgery clinic in Fourways. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
• Do terminal cleans of isolation rooms after a patient is discharged
• Move patients' belongings and equipment when rooms change
• Handle and bag medical waste in the right coloured bins
• Take soiled linen to the sluice room and bring clean linen back
• Wear gowns, masks and gloves as each room requires

• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty
• Matric or Grade 11
• Willing to follow strict infection control steps every time
• Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B
• Not squeamish about blood, vomit or medical waste
• Respectful and discreet around patients

• Previous hospital or clinic cleaning experience
• Experience as a porter or general assistant in healthcare
• An infection prevention and control short course

• Medical aid option through the employer
• Meal on shift at the staff canteen
• On-the-job infection control training

• If you did an infection control course, attach the certificate. It moves you ahead of general cleaners.
• Mention any hospital, clinic or old-age home work first, even if it was short. Healthcare recruiters shortlist people who know ward routines.
