CNC Machinist (Lathe & Milling)

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the beverage bottling plant in Paarl. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Paarl-based, with most of your time spent at a beverage bottling plant. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
